The word “Southwestern” brings to mind gorgeous sunsets over the desert. Tribal prints and cacti. Reds, oranges, and browns. The Southwestern look is beautiful, but maybe not appropriate for every home or even location. Would it feel strange to walk into a Southwestern themed room in Maine? Probably. Regardless, you should decorate your space with things you love. I love cool colors, lots of blue and white, and bright spaces. Doesn’t sound very “Southwestern” does it? I put together a cool Southwestern mood board to see if I could combine what I love with the Southwestern vibe.
A Cool Southwestern Mood Board
The inspiration for a cool Southwestern Mood board:
I discovered this gorgeous rug and I cannot get it out of my head. I wanted to see if I could create a space with the rug as a focal point, that still reflected my style, and would be a little outside of the typical “Southwestern” theme. Here’s what I came up with:
I love to mix styles. While I can appreciate a room that fits clearly into a Mid Century Modern, Cottage, or Traditional category, I really want to create spaces that say more about the person than the specific style category.
With that in mind, I stuck with colors that are my style, textures that feel good to me, and mixed patterns like crazy.
This mood board was a really fun exercise, I hope you enjoyed what I came up with. Sources linked below!
