Happy Monday!! That sounded very chipper, and I am never chipper on a Monday morning (or any morning for that matter), but I am excited to share a living room update! If you missed last week’s post, I shared a Decorating on a Budget Worksheet to help me stay focused on one room, stay on budget, and get it completed as quickly as the budget allows. I shared my monthly decorating budget, the changes I wanted to make first, and a lot of other details about my decorating plan for my living room. I also promised to show you the step by step process instead of waiting to do a big reveal. I love big reveals, but sometimes it can seem like a beautifully finished room can be out of reach for the every day woman trying to decorate her house on her own, so I’m showing you my step by step to help you see you can do it too! It just takes some time, work, and patience.
LIVING ROOM BEFORE
Just so you know what the living room looked like before…
LIVING ROOM UPDATE
And here is what it looks like now!
The orange is almost gone, so happy about that. As you can see, I am still in possession of my sofa, but I’m actively trying to sell it so I can get something a little more traditional. Also, I didn’t accomplish all of these changes in a week! I started back in June, a few weeks before I published my plan last week. I absolutely love the new rug, it adds just a hint of color without being too overwhelming. The door I found in an antique shop, it’s from a home built in 1876! I fell in love with it immediately and knew it could be a fun piece to decorate with.
I also shopped my home a little. The tall white vase, white apple, and books I had in other rooms, and the blue and white pottery sitting next to the fireplace grate was just sitting in storage. When you’re working on a room, walk around your house and take stock of what you have. Maybe you don’t even notice an item sitting in your bedroom anymore, but it could look great on your mantle!
I’m going to continue working on the fireplace wall for the month of July. I want to find some art to hang on the door, a replacement for the “It Is Well” print, a candle for the candle stick, and maybe some more green for above the fireplace. It feels a little bit too stark for my taste.
One item checked off the list!

Rug – Nuuloom Traditional Persian in Grey
Bust – Antique store, but I also like These and These
Windows – Antique store, but this Etsy Shop has a ton of old windows similar to mine!
Door – Antique store, I would suggest checking Craigslist or a Habitat for Humanity ReStore if you have one.
Ginger Jar – Antique store, Vintage pieces can get pretty pricey, I’ve found a few affordable ones on Etsy, and their are knock off pieces at retailers like HomeGoods.
Blue and White Crock – This piece is a knock off from Cracker Barrel of all places.
Candle Stick – Target, but I can’t find them online. These aren’t brown, but I really love them…
Apple – This was a Hobby Lobby purchase about 6 months ago,
White Vase – Purchased at Nebraska Furniture Mart about 2 years ago
I’m not sure yet when I’ll be back with another update on this room. I’d like to have more than just 1 or 2 new things to show you, so I may wait until the end of the month. Tell me about it in the comments!
